About Us
Scrubba by Calibre8 was founded in 2012 by Ash Newland and operates out of Melbourne, Australia.
Its original product, the multi-award winning Scrubba wash bag, has since been sold to over 300,000 travellers, been named one of Forbes greatest gifts for travellers, and even received investment on Shark Tank Australia.
Calibre8 has a growing portfolio of quality, minimalist travel solutions for all adventures, from camping to cruises.
Our History
In 2010, seasoned traveller, Ash Newland, was faced with the difficulty of packing light and staying clean on a trip to Mt Kilimanjaro in Africa. Determined to do more with less and help conserve the environments he visited, Newland developed the prototype Scrubba wash bag.
Eight years later, Scrubba products have helped over 300,000 travellers do more and journey further, for longer, and with less. The ultimate goal is to help travellers everywhere limit their ’footprints’ and expand their memories.
Our Mission
Here at Scrubba, we strive to inspire all travellers to live the Scrubba life. This is a life that can be enjoyed in total freedom. A life led with the conviction that using less resources and striving to minimise human impact on the world, makes more out of every journey.
We’re continuing to create simple innovative solutions to help conscientious travellers explore with more freedom and confidence, all while ensuring the memories they create leave minimal impact on the environment.
Our Commitments
In addition to making innovative products to make your journey easier, Scrubba by Calibre8 is committed to responsible environmental and social practices.
1% for the Planet - In 2022 we formally partnered with 1% for the Planet, committing to donating 1% of our total revenue each year to environmental causes.
Climate Neutral Certified - We’re proud to announce that we’ve officially been Climate Neutral certified. From 2022 onwards, we continue to measure our emissions, offset our entire footprint by investing in climate change solutions, and develop a plan to reduce our emissions moving forward.
Responsible Material Investment - We use quality materials to ensure a long product lifespan and design our products to be easily repairable.
Undyed Options - We launched our Untouched Scrubba range which uses fabric that isn’t bleached or dyed to further reduce our carbon and wastewater footprint during production.
Recycled Textiles - In 2021/22 we started trialling 100% recycled polyester for use in the Scrubba wash bag. We expect to roll out recycled textiles to all Scrubba wash bags in 2022/23.
Environmental & Social Responsibility - Our retail products are packed in fully recyclable cardboard packaging or in reusable packing cells. In the AU market, customers can opt for no retail packaging on select products.
Restricted Substances List - We maintain a list of banned or restricted materials and chemicals and we ensure they aren’t used in any Scrubba products.
No PVC - Due to the negative environmental impact of PVC, we have made the decision to discontinue manufacturing our inflatable hangers.
Clean water for those in need - Clean water and sanitation is still something that millions of people lack access to. Over the years we have donated tens of thousands of dollars to fully funded several projects through Charity: water to help bring clean water to those in dire need.
Humanitarian Aid - In instances of natural and humanitarian disasters, we have made several monetary donations to aid organisations. In 2022, we are launching a humanitarian aid version of the Scrubba wash bag, which will allow those in need to meet one of their basic requirements of sanitary clothing.
