Our consumer demand and busy lifestyles have made us complacent with the amount of waste we throw away each day, especially while "On The Go". The days of going to the grocer and having everything packed in a brown paper bag, from a reused glass jar sitting on wooden benches wasn't that long ago. Now, nearly everything we buy at the supermarket is shelved, packaged and bagged with plastic. While the supermarkets think they have fooled us by sticking plastic stickers made to look like hessian and wood over the existing plastic fruit stalls, the reality is that our demand for convenience is costing out planet dearly. While we have come a long way in reducing single use plastic bags used to pack our groceries, over 90% of our recyclable still make their way to landfill. If we all follows some simple steps in our shopping habits and avoid single use plastics, we can collectively improve this statistic.
