Have you also provided feedback to Thermomix that you’d like them to move away from plastic when in contact with hot food or liquids? Were you also disappointed to see that the new version doesn’t have less plastic than the previous one?
We were, and we have provided our feedback, asking if they’d consider moving away from plastic. The answer was, not to worry about the plastic. It is food safe. Really, in 2025?

“Hello,

There is enough scientific evidence that plastic in contact with hot food and liquids release microplastics, so we have found some products to replace at least some your Thermomix plastic items, and we’d like to share them with you.
We have listed here a few plastic free Thermomix accessories we could find on the market to help you build a plastic-free kitchen.
Please note: these accessories are not official items by Thermomix and may damage your appliance. Please consider the product reviews before purchasing these items.

We’ve finally found a steaming basket that has been specifically designed to fit the Thermomix TM5 and TM6. It is made of rustless 304 stainless steel and is dishwasher safe. It also comes with a stainless steel insert to steam multiple ingredients simultaneously.

December 18, 2025 at 12:45 pmVery nice. However, is there any plastic-free alternative to the TM6 lid? I’m worried about the silicone on the inside of the lid since it’s constantly getting heated and in direct contact with mixing bowl contents. What do you recommend to limit this risk?
I'm Plastic Free
December 18, 2025 at 3:16 pmHi Jerry,
Great question. I have the same problem, though I still have a TM5.
Unfortunately no, there isn’t, yet! I have been scouting for it without success so far… and that is the main reason why I’m not upgrading to a new Thermomix. I won’t do it unless the cooking area is plastic free!
One tip I can give you is to wash the lid ALWAYS by hand, never in the dishwasher. By washing it by hand, the plastic and the silicone ring stay intacter or at least in better condition for a much longer time. In the dishwasher, on the contrary, they both degrade quite fast due to the combination of the high temperatures and the detergent.
I hope this helped a bit, despite I don’t have a solution. If yes, we’d immensenly appreciate if you could leave us a review here: https://g.page/r/Cai0cN6YmcyFEBM/review
It means the world to us.
Kind regards,
