Have you also provided feedback to Thermomix that you’d like them to move away from plastic when in contact with hot food or liquids? Were you also disappointed to see that the new version doesn’t have less plastic than the previous one?
We were, and we have provided our feedback, asking if they’d consider moving away from plastic. The answer was, not to worry about the plastic. It is food safe. Really, in 2025?

“Hello,
outstanding quality and first-class service are our top priorities at Vorwerk. We are happy to assure you that all plastic parts of the Thermomix® that come into contact with food contain no plasticizers and are BPA-free.
We are constantly working to make our products even better. All Thermomix® accessories are dishwasher-safe and therefore also heat-resistant to a corresponding extent. The materials used are food-safe and therefore harmless to health. Vorwerk Thermomix® regularly checks its products in extensive internal test procedures as well as by independent external institutes.”
There is enough scientific evidence that plastic in contact with hot food and liquids release microplastics, so we have found some products to replace at least some your Thermomix plastic items, and we’d like to share them with you.

December 18, 2025 at 12:45 pmVery nice. However, is there any plastic-free alternative to the TM6 lid? I’m worried about the silicone on the inside of the lid since it’s constantly getting heated and in direct contact with mixing bowl contents. What do you recommend to limit this risk?

December 18, 2025 at 3:16 pmHi Jerry,
Great question. I have the same problem, though I still have a TM5.
Unfortunately no, there isn’t, yet! I have been scouting for it without success so far… and that is the main reason why I’m not upgrading to a new Thermomix. I won’t do it unless the cooking area is plastic free!
One tip I can give you is to wash the lid ALWAYS by hand, never in the dishwasher. By washing it by hand, the plastic and the silicone ring stay intacter or at least in better condition for a much longer time. In the dishwasher, on the contrary, they both degrade quite fast due to the combination of the high temperatures and the detergent.
I hope this helped a bit, despite I don’t have a solution. If yes, we’d immensenly appreciate if you could leave us a review here: https://g.page/r/Cai0cN6YmcyFEBM/review
It means the world to us.
Kind regards,

May 2, 2026 at 3:24 pmHi Patrikia,
No, not yet unfortunately… still hoping that someone will develop it! We have only found a silicone lid so far https://amzn.to/3P3sYl0 but that is only for storage… and doesn’t help… We’ll update this article as soon as we find it!
Kind regards,

March 28, 2026 at 3:28 amThank you for this! So excited to see these options! Just wondering if you’ve cooked rice in the basket and how it went? That is my go to use for the simmering basket!

March 29, 2026 at 10:33 amHi Felicity,
Thank you for your question! Yes, I’m using the basket for rice all the time! I put a little bit of rice bran oil at the bottom of the stainless steel basket so the rice doesn’t stick to it, and it works perfectly! I use that basket also as a separate sieve, It’s so handy!
I hope this helps. If you like our work, we’d love to receive a few words of appreciation: https://g.page/r/Cai0cN6YmcyFEAE/review
We work hard to keep this resource going… Many thanks!

May 5, 2026 at 2:13 amHi just letting you know rice bran oil is not considered healthy any more 🙁 it’s safer to use extra virgin olive oil, butter or ghee.
I was just gifted a TM7 & am astounded by all the plastic components in this day and age! Especially after getting rid of all my plastics over a decade ago. I’m going to try the stainless steel basket with it and see how it goes. Thanks for your website!

May 15, 2026 at 12:01 pmHi Bee,
Thank you for your comment. We’ll do some research on the oil. We mainly coat the basket with that because it’s much cheaper than extra virgin olive oil which we use for salads etc.
Yes, Thermomix has still a lot of plastic in its components, we have provided this feedback to them too over the past 10 years but we don’t think they were really open to listen… at least we found the basket for now! Next, we hope to find the lid too!
Kind regards,
Simona

June 12, 2026 at 2:32 pmHello? Do you know if you can use this stainless steel bowl for the TM7 and does it replace the varoma? Thank you!
I'm Plastic Free
June 12, 2026 at 8:32 pmHi Jen,
No, I’m not sure if the one I listed fits the TM7. However, I just did some reseaerch and I found that there is now a specific TM7 stainless steel basket, or at least that is what it’s mentioned in the title, so it’ll fit: https://amzlink.to/az0jAiWReB16F
Thank you for asking, I’ll update this article!
If we were able to help, we’d immensely appreciate a few words here: https://g.page/r/Cai0cN6YmcyFEAE/review
Many thanks
Kind regards,
